Oscalate FAQ

Samples require more processing power and much more memory than simple waveforms. And alot of interesting sounds can be created using simple waveforms and modulation. Samples will be added in the future for granular synthesis.

A grid sequencer is a simple visual presentation of the notes in a pattern. The grid is laid out in rows, where each row has squares to represent notes from low on the left to high on the right. The cursor descends from the top to the bottom (some grid sequencers pass from the left to the right) and notes are triggered by toggling a particular square.

Oscalate is not a traditional synthesizer and no other synthesizer is like Oscalate. Oscalate has many features that are common to synthesizers, like waveforms, modulation, and envelopes, but Oscalate uses oscillator blocks to modulate parameters and layer sounds. Each oscillator has the same parameters available and can be used to modulate any other oscillator and to generate sound directly. Oscalate offers a unique way to explore sound generating and music.
